Self Isolation: 12 things to do if you’re bored at home

Need Some Inspiration?

Here’s our boredom-busting top tips…

In this time of self isolation it’s so easy to get bored at home and sink into the Netflix abyss. But do not fear – we have some ideas!

Here’s 12 things to do if you’re bored at home:

  1. Clear out your wardrobe

Why not give your wardrobe a little refresh? It can be a boring chore, but it’s high time to ditch the items you haven’t worn in years (be ruthless!) and co-ordinate your clothing so that it’s easier to browse through in the mornings. It’s a great excuse to re-discover old favourite items or be inspired by things you forgot you had.

If you’re looking for a little inspiration, we are loving:

Speaking of things to do if you’re bored at home – if you’re clearing out the kids wardrobes too, be sure to check out:

2. Let your creative juices flow

Now is the time to get crafting! Whether you’ve always wanted to learn to crochet, fancy some therapeutic watercolour art or want to redecorate the lounge, if you’re bored at home then now is the time! If you’re looking for things to do if you’re bored at home, there’s loads of inspo on our blog.

3. Read a book

It’s a great time to read that classic you’ve been meaning to read for years, or that book you were gifted for Christmas that you haven’t touched yet. Whether it’s a best-selling memoir, a classic novel or some fantasy escape, now is the time to grab a hot chocolate (or a G&T) and a blanket and delve in!

FantasyWire offer a book on the art of wire sculpting, if you fancy a good read or are just keen to find out more about their work or even creating your own sculpture.

4. Drinks with your pals

Ok, so we can’t actually meet in person – but social distancing doesn’t mean social isolation. Get onto Zoom, Houseparty or similar, and chat to your friends over a glass of wine, some artisan chocolates and super fancy snacks. There’s no need to be bored at home alone in the age of the internet.

Ginfused offer an amazing range of alcohol-free tipples that taste just like the real thing. Or why not treat yourself to some delicious fine chocolate – after all, we’re all saving a fortune by not going out!

5. Have a super indulgent spa day

Just because you can’t get to a spa right now doesn’t mean you don’t deserve the full works! Treat yourself to a full facial, aromatherapy candles, a hot bath and a good foot soak.

Try incredible soaps from Hog & Tallow or Goap, treat yourself to a bath bomb from The Little Shop of Lathers, or check out the incredible treatments that Holistic Earth have to offer. Therapy & Scent also have kits that are just perfect for a home-made spa day.

6. Get planning for the future

We may not be able to travel quite yet, go into work or resume our social lives – but once this is all over you’ll be inundated with things to do! Use this time to plan and get things down in your diary. Anna Treliving Design has the most beautiful notelets and stationary for all of your social planning needs – perfect for a little ‘miss you’ note to a friend, or a ‘pop this date in your diary’ card to someone you love. Check out Lazy Creative for planning calendars and the most wonderful Harry Potter inspired washi tape!

7. Get gardening

It’s the perfect time to get gardening and create a green haven away from the chaos of the world. This summer is set to be a good one, so now is the time to plan!

Brighten up your garden with gorgeous hand-made wooden accessories from Wood Sage Design, the slate and wood wonders of Brindley Garden Products, or bespoke items from Knock & Nail

8. Freshen up your home

Inject some colour with beautiful glassware from Sarah Myatt or add some aromatherapy candles from Therapy & Scent to freshen up every room you walk into. Brighten up your home with artwork from Melissa Donne Studio, WorkSpace or Nolasean. After all, you’ll be spending a lot of time at home – so investing in making your living space wonderful is a priority!

9. Spend time with your pets

With everyone suddenly spending all their time at home, we’re sure your pets don’t know what’s hit them! Dog walking is a good excuse to leave the house when you need some fresh air or a bit of an escape. Why not thank your pets for all the love they give you with a little treat from Barkley & Fetch, Snooboos or handmade.dog? If you love your pets that little bit extra, why not get them immortalised in fabric by Cushy Paws?

10. Learn to cook your dream dish

Always wanted to try out your nan’s special recipe? Perhaps you want to learn how to make authentic enchiladas or cook some healthy soups from scratch? Now is the time to perfect your own recipes or learn to cook your favourite meal. Check out The Herb & Spice Co. for spices, inspiration, cookery kits and more!

11. Decorate your home office

With working from home suddenly sprung upon many of us, it’s important to create a specific space that you can really focus in. Create a soothing space with sleek artwork from Slipped Ink, or grab some funky stationery from Anna Treliving Design

Misshandled can give you the perfect colour pop accessories, and Yellow Room Designs has fabulously eye-catching coasters that will make you smile every time you have a coffee!

12. A Random Act of Kindness

We all love a bit of self-indulgent online shopping from time to time, and Pedddle is the perfect place to carry on shopping local from your own home, and support your local community economically too. However, it’s always nice to buy a little something to put a smile on someone else’s face – although how do you deliver it during isolation?

Luckily for you, our Random Acts of Kindness Market is coming up on 19th April! Our wonderful stallholders will post your chosen gift directly to the recipient, so you can bring joy to someone’s life without even leaving your sofa!
