Should I get business cards or postcards?

Traders- Hints & Tips

The Postcards v. Business Cards debate!

“Should I get business cards or postcards?” How should you promote your stall at market? It could be a good idea to get either or both, but firstly let’s explore why and how these options can both help you.

Aside from a banner or sign with your name on (which customers can also photograph if they want to remember your business name), being able to hand them something to take away is a great marketing and promotion option.

In fact, Pedddle’s QR code system is the most ideal and sustainable way to do this – market visitors and customers can scan your Pedddle board at a market and immediately save your stall, so they can remember it easily, by logging into Pedddle. This saves you buying any market stall extras, like business cards, saving you costs, and also it’s a more sustainable method. Plus, our customers can see you at the very top of their Dashboard every time they log into Pedddle!

Our QR code system removes the need for business cards or postcards, but if you still want to give them something to take away and go with a more traditional method, read on for some ideas…

Should I get business cards or postcards? The Pros and Cons

Business Cards Plus Points:

  • It’s easy to leave your business card out for customers to pick up, or hand them out yourself – you can keep them in your wallet and network any time, any where!
  • They are small and easily stored
  • Easy to read info – make sure you pop your business name on it, and either a QR code or your socials, and your website and email address.

Business Card Drawbacks:

  • Business cards can easily get lost in the visual display your stall
  • They are small and easy for customers to forget they even picked up, leave at the bottom of a bag or drop somewhere.
  • You’re unlikely to have room for a clear image or your products on the card.

Postcard Positivity:

  • Postcards are bigger and therefore likelier to be seen and picked up at your stall.
  • You can include more info on a bigger card – don’t crowd it, but make sure your web address, contact details and social media handles are clear (or your own QR code containing links)
  • More space for an image on a postcard, which allows people to remember what your products look like – but this can also age and date the cards quickly when your product lines change. Include an image of a bestseller, or something you know will be relevant for a while.

Postcard Drawbacks:

  • Postcards may be more costly to get produced.
  • Again, they may be forgotten about or lost – they may even be folded in half just to fit in smaller bags!

Whether you decide to go with postcards or business cards (or even both!) is up to you, but we do think a personal touch always goes a long way!

Don’t forget about the QR code system we mentioned, which lots of our stallholders use on their own Pedddle boards at market. This is just one of many benefits that Pedddle Members receive.

Other ideas to get your business noticed

  • A large, clear sign board to take to markets. You could add a QR code or link to your social media handles, and advertise your social media channels easily. Customers can easily take a photo of it to remember you later (plus this is more environmentally friendly than handing out loads of paper/card).
  • A table banner with all of your details on. Here are some tips if you’re considering a stall banner.
  • Signs that you can hang behind your stall.
