Who we are
Idlewild Glassworks is a creative collaboration between Leicestershire-based stained glass artists Hannah and Lewis, specialising in handcrafted stained glass pieces inspired by nature, culture, and geometric design. Their work blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, celebrating diversity through vibrant colours, bold geometric patterns, symmetry, and rich cultural influences. With a shared passion for travel and culture, their designs are deeply inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern art and architecture. They create whimsical pieces that transform spaces with light and elegance, embracing cultural diversity and artistic expression, seamlessly integrating into a variety of interiors, from minimalist to artisan-inspired spaces, particularly modern eclectic styles.
Hannah’s fascination with stained glass began during lockdown, sparking a creative passion that led her to later teach Lewis. Together they have honed their skills, using high-quality materials and innovative techniques to create pieces built to last. They now work from their studio in Hinckley.
The name ‘Idlewild’ is inspired by L.M. Montgomery’s ‘Anne of Green Gables’, where Anne names her playhouse ‘Idlewild’ as a place of imagination and creativity. The name embodies the freedom of artistic expression, blending ‘idleness’ with the wildness of imagination, encouraging daydreaming and exploration. Idlewild’s logo, ‘The Sun,’ is influenced by 13th-17th century Persian miniatures and traditional stained glass linework. It reflects both the brand’s celebration of cultural diversity and the essential role of sunlight in their craft, symbolising creative freedom and heritage while offering a playful yet timeless aesthetic.
Idlewild Glasswork is committed to sustainability, carefully sourcing materials and minimising waste throughout their creative process. They donate their glass offcuts to Mosaic artists and recycle as many materials as they can – including the packaging their materials are delivered in. All orders are packaged using eco-friendly, sustainable materials to minimise environmental impact. Their work is available online through their website and at artisan markets.
