Who we are

Chat Noir Studio’s founder Agathe is a London-based French maker creating eco-friendly handmade candles and trays with a vintage, rock’n’roll vibe, inspired by a little black cat and his adventures in her hometown of Toulouse in France, and Manchester, where she studied. Also passionate about fine art photography, she uses her photographic skills to shape and curate the visual identity of her work from start to finish.

Each piece is carefully crafted by hand in small batches, with a focus on thoughtful materials and a more sustainable approach to making. From eco-friendly wax candles to hand-cast and air-dry clay trays, every object is created with attention to detail, resulting in subtle variations that make each piece unique.

Her work is structured through collections inspired by place and memory. One collection draws from Toulouse, often referred to as the “Pink City,” translating its colours and atmosphere into a bold, playful, and rock-influenced aesthetic. Another collection is inspired by Manchester, reflecting a rawer, edgier energy shaped by the city’s character and creative scene. Together, these collections express a consistent vintage, rock’n’roll identity while exploring different moods and influences.

A recurring element throughout Chat Noir Studio is the presence of a little black cat, who quietly ties each collection together. His adventures, inspired by moments from Agathe’s own life, appear through shapes, motifs, and details, from paw-inspired candles to subtle design references, adding a narrative layer to the objects.

Alongside her work as a maker, Agathe continues to develop her fine art photography practice, capturing landscapes and urban scenes that reflect her sensitivity to light, colour, and composition. This multidisciplinary approach informs every aspect of Chat Noir Studio, allowing her to build a cohesive universe where objects and imagery work together.
