Who we are
We’re Innabox! A small, independent business creating humorous, heartfelt and relatable gifts inspired by real life, lived experience and the incredibly chaotic world of hidden disabilities.
Our business was born from something very personal…
In 2019, Nikky started creating the Invisible Illness Club after spending years struggling with symptoms that nobody could see. For 14 years, she lived without answers, trying to navigate debilitating symptoms while often feeling misunderstood and dismissed. In 2020, she was finally diagnosed with severe stage 4 endometriosis, a condition that had progressed significantly and affected multiple areas of her body.
Living with an invisible illness changed the way Nikky saw the world. It showed her just how difficult it can be to explain something that other people simply cannot see, and how isolating it can feel when your body isn’t behaving the way you want it to.
But it also sparked an idea!..
What if there were products that said the things people with invisible illnesses often struggle to put into words?
What if something as simple as an enamel pin, sticker or piece of stationery could make someone feel understood?
And, perhaps most importantly, what if we could find a way to laugh about some of the most frustrating parts of living with chronic illness?
That was the beginning of The Invisible Illness Club range!
Nikky’s fiancé, Stevie, is also a huge part of the story behind the business. Stevie brings his own lived experiences with neurodiversity and mental health, giving Innabox another perspective on the realities of living with conditions that aren’t always immediately visible to other people.
He is often the friendly face you’ll meet at markets whilst Nikky stays home with the cats drawing and planning their next move!
Together, we understand that life doesn’t always fit neatly into categories. Chronic illness, disability, mental health and neurodiversity can overlap in complicated ways, and everyone’s experience is different. Sometimes life can be incredibly difficult but the best thing you can do is find something to laugh about.
That’s where our products come in!
We create everything from enamel pins, stickers and stationery to accessories, gifts and plushies. Our designs cover chronic illness, hidden disability, mental health and many specific conditions from Fibromyalgia to ADHD.
Some of our products are silly. Some are sarcastic. Some are just weird. Others are more heartfelt and designed simply to remind someone that their experience is valid and that they aren’t alone.
We believe humour can be a powerful way of coping, connecting and communicating. Sometimes you don’t need a long explanation, you just need a tiny enamel pin that says exactly what your brain, body or nervous system is doing.
At the heart of Innabox is our desire to make people feel seen, understood and represented.
We want our products to give people a way to express something they might otherwise struggle to explain, to help start conversations around invisible conditions, and to make people smile on days when smiling might be a little harder.
We’re proud to create products from lived experience, for people with lived experience. To watch people at markets point at a pin and say “Look it’s you!” Or “Hey that’s me!” Because living with chronic illness, mental health difficulties or neurodiversity can be hard enough.
So we’re here to make it a little more colourful, a little more humorous, and hopefully a whole lot less lonely.
