11 easy ways to promote a market

Organisers Info

We’ve put together 11 easy ways for you to promote your next market or event; a checklist to take some of the stress away!

We love to support our market and event organiser community, so here are 11 easy ways to promote a market!

Driving footfall is essential to getting customers into your market, who in turn buy from your stallholders. There are many ways you can promote your event to drive footfall, both free and paid for, so here are our best ideas:

Our top 11 easy ways to promote a market

1. Social Media

OF COURSE social media comes first!! Instagram Reels are where it’s at (make sure they’re only 3-10 seconds long with a trending audio), grid posts, FB, and TikTok even, if that’s where your audience is. Tag as many people as possible on your event posts and it’s great if you’re featuring them – Meta shares it to more people if you get a good reaction to a post! Tell your stallholders to like, comment and share your posts, to let everyone know they are taking part and encourage their friends and followers to come along to your event.

2. Shout out to different Facebook groups

Adjacent to the point above, but more specific! Ideally ones local to your venue and share the event there. Do it from your personal account, rather than as the business, so it has a personal touch. Make a list of different types of groups – try and think outside the box as to what kind of things you audience are in to; local people like to support great events in their local area.

3. Ask the venue to promote your event

They may already have signs up, and have mentioned you on social media – if not, politely ask or encourage them to. Ask if they can mention it in an email to their customers – this is a whole extra audience you could be seen by!

4. Create graphics for stallholders to share

This should have all of your event details on and your branding (helping you become recognisable in future too) – stallholders can then share your graphics on their own social media channels, helping you be seen in plenty of places! Canva is ideal to create a template to send out, and you could even make one customisable.

5. Put up banners

Ideally at the venue a week before AND on local streets BUT don’t leave them up – people stop seeing them. Make sure it’s fresh and don’t keep them up too long!

6. Send out physical flyers

This is a lot of leg work and more expensive, but could be helpful.

7. Get on local directories

Try and be seen in all formats, especially if your market targets all ages.

8. Email your customers

If you haven’t got one – START AN EMAIL LIST!!

9. Encourage your Stallholders to email their customers

Get as many people as you can to shout about your event.

10. Host a competition

You could do this in advance of your market, announcing the winner at your event.

For example, if people sign up to your mailing list, they get a £50 voucher to spend at your event. This ensures that a) people sign up to your mailing list and b) will attend your event to see if they won!

You could also give away a voucher at the event for your next market, ensuring return customers.
