To say we are pretty pleased with our Lisa May in the Retail Competition with Pedddle is a slight understatement! We love supporting market stallholders and collaborating, and we are certainly going to make a few people happy next week!
Having a coach or mentor is a brilliant way to increase your accountability for work and progress within your business. Whether you are just starting out or are deep into your business journey, support with ideas, concepts, decisions or plans is invaluable, and the act of sharing it with a mentor makes you a little bit more accountable!
As a business owner myself, I decided to invest in myself and enlist the help and much needed support of a mentor – and what a difference it’s made. The process of talking through ideas and future plans has been both inspiring and liberating, but also having real conversations about income and revenue streams is so important and empowering.
Coaching with Lisa May from In the Retail
Let’s hear a little more from Lisa and find out about her business before we share further news about our collaboration and competition! Over to you, Lisa…
Hi Nicki, thanks for having me!
I’ve worked in Retail for over 18 years, for companies such as Jack Wills, Debenhams, Joules and Gap – my final role being European Manager of Eileen Fisher.
But I always wanted a little more, I wanted to work with people who are passionate and excited by their businesses. 2019 saw me start to mentor independent business owners to focus, grow and succeed within their businesses. You have to wear so many hats when running your own business, but often you don’t know where to start. I was able to highlight ways to improve, streamline and grow businesses to the next level.
At the start of the pandemic I offered free 1-2-1 sessions to anyone who wanted them; after 4 weeks I’d spoken to 29 business owners – it was fantastic. I quickly realised that I needed to create an affordable and simple way to support small retailers and business owners and get word out there.
The Mentor Society was born! It’s an action driven membership, with each month focusing on a specific retail topic, such as the Customer Journey, Customer Experiences, Planning for Christmas, Pinterest and Product Launching. There are monthly lives, group sessions and workboard tutorials. Each month I also bring in an expert from the industry to talk directly to the members.

A year’s membership for The Mentor Society.
You know now, more than ever, that you should be investing time into your stores but you have no clue where to begin. Does this sound familiar?
You know you need to be elevating your customer journey, creating successful product launches, building customer connections, have super savvy website navigation… all while pre-planning Christmas!
But you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed and distracted by the length of your to-do-list.
One of the biggest mistakes I see when small retailers try to tackle all these issues, is they become overwhelmed, dishearten and give up.The Mentor Society is simple, action-driven membership for retailers. Each month will focus on a specific topic, workbook tutorials, with Live and Groups sessions.
Prize worth: £36 monthly – 12 months…£432
3-month Accountability Partner Mentorship
This prize is accessible to current Pedddle stallholder members only.
This will include six one-hour 1-2-1 sessions over a 3 month period. We will initially discuss what our outcomes will be, hash out all ideas and scenarios – and then get to work! Meeting every other week to put our plans into place, build, launch, execute and deliver!
The Accountability Partner mentorship is exactly that, someone to not only help build the strategy – but also keep you on track, keep you accountable for seeing things through, on time, with purpose. We all have great ideas for our business, but how often do we get to see them through, in a planned, thoughtful way?
Having an accountability partner is having someone to ask, an outside eye, a professional point of view. It’s someone to guide you through the big picture. The idea, the product, the service, the launch, the marketing, the execution, the distribution, the pricing, the customer journey
Whether you have a product or service-based business and what to grow it. Or if you want to develop/start something from scratch.
We will meet twice a month, via zoom calls, for 3 months, with continued email support throughout that time.
Prize worth: £900
