Rainbow Monkey Events run brilliant vegan markets throughout Nottinghamshire. After a whole year of being in business, they are expanding their events to bring even more great markets to the people of Nottingham and beyond.
Read the Q&A session we had with owner Sam, to find out a little more about their events.
We heard it’s the first anniversary of Rainbow Monkey Events! How long have you been running markets for?
I have been running markets on and off since 2019, but Rainbow Monkey Events was formed in February 2022 – so Happy First Birthday to us!
I have been a market trader myself, on and off, since 1991, so I hope to have a good grasp on what traders and customers look for in a market.
What is your newest market, and what is special about it?
Our newest market is Newark Vegan & Ethical Market, which launched in December 2022 and has been a huge success – it runs alongside the main Saturday market in the central market place, which is right in the middle of this historic market town. Despite the sub-zero temperatures in January (-3 degrees!), we still had a large number of customers, hot food traders sold out and we were all entertained with great live music too!
We have also just agreed to run a vegan market in Mansfield from June 2023. This will be held on alternate months with Newark in between – so on every third Saturday, you will see that either Newark or Mansfield have a vegan market – very exciting times for Nottinghamshire!

What has been your favourite market ever?
We love all of our markets for quite different reasons!
West Bridgford is our “local” monthly one, as we are based in Nottingham. It is both an indoor and outdoor market, with a large range of traders plus a fully vegan licensed bar and a comfy seating area!
We love Chesterfield Vegan Market too for it’s huge market stalls, with space for traders to really showcase what they sell and build a great set-up. Regular market visitors travel from all over to attend this monthly vegan market too.
Why should people visit your markets?
Our markets are very friendly and welcoming – all are fully accessible, free to enter, and welcome dogs.
We always have a diverse range of traders and charity stalls, with a really good mix of regulars and new traders who are supported in trying out selling, often for the first time!
Many of our traders offer free tasters of their products – something you don’t get in a supermarket! Supporting small businesses and charities is really important to us – and our customers love this!
What’s next for Rainbow Monkey Events?
Apart from the new Mansfield Vegan Market, mentioned above, we are also hoping to take on some other new areas in future, in order to offer affordable and ethical markets to new traders and interested customers alike.
