Jewel Glass
Fused glass artwork inspired by nature

Who we are
All Jewel Glass fused glass pieces are made by me, Frances Lloyd, in the quiet haven of my garden studio in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.
Since a young child I have always loved the vibrant colours and translucency of glass, and in the past I have experimented with stained glass and glass painting, but it was not until I discovered fusing in 2010 that I had found my niche. In the early days, I made LOTS of jewellery, but over the years I moved onto pictures and free-standing curves.
My work is mainly inspired by nature in all its forms; especially the beautiful landscapes, coastline and wildlife of my home county. My main love is trees – my workshop is surrounded by them – and these feature in many of my pieces. However, despite my fascination by all things natural, I sometimes enjoy portraying the built landscape in my work, and have completed many commissions of special buildings, be they people’s houses, churches or the interesting old buildings in my local town.
I sell my work mainly in makers’ markets throughout South Wales, and always get a buzz when someone chooses to buy one of my creations. They start off as sheet glass, which I cut and layer, often adding frit (crushed glass) then fire in my kiln for anything up to 24 hours, depending on the effect I am trying to achieve. It is always with nervous anticipation that I open the kiln lid to see what awaits me inside.
