Who we are
I started embroidery in March 2022, when I was signed off sick from work due to poor mental health and exhaustion. My occupational therapist told me I should try a mindful hobby. I am a teacher by trade but I studied Illustration at university so having little artistic and creative hobbies was part of my coping mechanism anyway. I need a creative outlet otherwise I become depressed easily. I have suffered from depression my entire life. But, this was my first time embroidering. I purchased a few starter kits and watched YouTube videos to understand the instructions. It didn’t take long until I wanted to create something 100% mine. I had purchased some mindful postcards with saying such as ‘You got this! Learn to rest, not to quit’ and was buying quite a few bouquets of flowers to try and help lift my mood in March/April so decided I would I create designs that combined the two; Cheerful quotes and floral designs.
I quickly created a handful of embroidery hoops and decided to try my hand at a few cushions too. With funds running out and my inventory ever increasing, I tired a few stalls and markets in the Summer of 2022. People started buying them!
The more markets I did and the more I spoke to other people, the more inspiration I had. This led me to branch out to body positive messages and sweary affirmations too.
So now I create items to increase positive mental health, wellbeing and that inspire and motivate. I use affirmations and floral designs to create embroidered goods; wall hangings, cushions and bags; and always on the look out on what new things I can create for.
I would really like this to turn into a full-time career move but with the cost of living crisis, it is not a reality yet…hopefully with your support, it may be one day!
